The RED CAD APP is primarily designed for use on local computers/laptops. This is because the software places higher demands on the device's hardware, particularly the CPU.
Often, CPUs used on terminal servers, cloud servers, or similar systems cannot handle the required load. This severely limits performance.
The processor's clock speed is crucial for ensuring the RED CAD APP runs smoothly. The engine used by the RED CAD APP primarily uses the CPU, with only a small portion offloaded to the graphics card. This means the graphics card's load is very low.
It doesn’t matter whether an Intel or AMD processor is used, however ARM Processors are not recommended.
When purchasing new hardware or systems, we always recommend a thorough test phase to avoid any unexpected surprises later on. This is especially true if you plan to use the RED CAD APP on a remote system such as a Terminal Server, Cloud Server, or similar.
If a license is required for the test phase, the 14-day trial license can be used without any problems. The trial license can be requested after installing the RED CAD APP via the activation screen displayed.

The RED CAD APP runs only on Windows.
A virtual machine is required for operation on macOS.

Windows ab Win7 SP1, 64Bit recommended, (.NET Framework: 4.8 or newer)
macOS not compatible (only using a virtual machine) → More information → RED CAD APP on macOS
Intel Core i series or AMD Ryzen 3 or higher processors or comparable. Min. 3 GHz clock speed
ARM processors not recommended
Using a firewall/proxy server may cause problems with communication between our web services.
This can occur, for example, during startup, activation, and during update and license checks.
If this occurs, we recommend enabling the following DNS information in the firewall/proxy server.
https://*.redcad.net/*
https://*.redcad.ch/*
We do not conduct explicit tests on macOS. This information has been collected and compiled over the years with the help of our customers.
The RED CAD APP is a pure Windows application and therefore requires the Microsoft Windows operating system. The Windows operating system can be run on an Apple device in various ways.
Apple offers a built-in software called Apple Bootcamp.
Apple Bootcamp allows you to install a Windows operating system after setup.
The advantage is that you have access to the full system performance of the Apple device.
The disadvantage of Bootcamp is that you have to decide which operating system to start when you boot the device. The two operating systems are completely separate from each other.
An alternative to Apple Boot Camp could be using a virtual machine. There are several virtual machine manufacturers on the market. Some are paid, while others are free, i.e., open source.
Virtual machines function like software that virtually simulates a computer and allows you to run another operating system within one operating system.
The advantage is that you always have both operating systems available "on the fly."
The disadvantage of virtual machines is that performance varies greatly depending on how many resources you allocate to the virtual machine. This can generally be adjusted.
Here are some of the virtual machines our customers have chosen and use:
